Hurricane Sandy

As I scroll through images on news websites, images on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.. All that seems to come to mind is: How does anyone NOT believe in God when this sort of thing happens? Who do they think caused this? Who do they think created this? Who do they rely on when they’re scared as the storm is headed their way? Who do they rely on when they don’t know where they’ll live after the storm leaves? Who do they rely on when they see a whole coast line in ruins? Who do they rely on when there’s millions and millions without power? Who do they rely on while their world just took a turn for the worst? How do some people not believe in a God that restores,  a God that comforts you when you’re scared and don’t know what to do, a God that provides, a God that moves mountains (and in this case, He’s moved much more than mountains, do you agree?)

Is this God trying to show us a glimpse of how powerful He really is? With all of this mess going on with the elections, and with life in general, God has gotten overlooked. It’s almost like people have just forgotten that there IS a God, and that He IS in charge, and that He IS the ultimate power. “One nation under God”- What ever happened to that? It’s almost like it never existed.

Have you forgotten God lately?

Hurricane Sandy is not a surprise to God. HE created this storm. Have you forgotten that the Lord is the ultimate creator? Has He gotten your attention yet? If so, why not?

Psalm 135:6-7

The Lord does whatever pleases him,
in the heavens and on the earth,
in the seas and all their depths.

He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth;
he sends lightning with the rain
and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

This storm is the largest to ever hit the Atlantic Ocean. It’s clouds stretch from Florida to Canada. There’s flooding, blizzards, high winds, huge waves, millions without power, and fires stretched all along the east coast of the United States of America. People have already lost their lives from the storm, and it’s not over. It’s heartbreaking. It really is.. But the Lord has a reason for everything that happens. (check here for more on that)

The past few days, I can’t help but think He’s trying to get our attention. Would you agree?

Why else would He cause one of the largest storms to ever happen? Also, do you think it’s a little ironic that the storm is happening right in our nation’s capital and surrounding cities? Call me cray, but I do not think it’s a coincidence. I don’t believe in coincidences. God has some reason He’s causing all of this. I think it’s time we ALL direct our attention and how we live our lives back to Him.

We all should keep the vicitims of Hurricane Sandy in our prayers. The power of prayer is SO huge (check here for more on that) AND our God IS able.

He has all authority of the things that happen on earth. Don’t forget to praise Him (even during the storm-no pun intended, Casting Crowns.) We can go through life with Him, or without Him, by our sides. And in times like these, doesn’t it only seem to make sense that we have Him by our side and in our hearts? He makes our paths straight, and no matter what, all things work together for our good in the end if we believe in Him. He is the ultimate power, the ultimate healer, the ultimate authority. Praise Him when things are rough, and when things are going well for you. He’s almighty, and the works of His hands are powerful, indeed.

Something to think about today.

Over and out,
